Orange and the Château of Versailles have joined forces to develop multimedia tours that cover the opulent grounds of Le Nôtre. In October 2009, 200 users first tested their new application “Versailles Gardens” developed for the iPhone. An array of interactive content is offered to visitors, such as videos of experts speaking about the gardens’ many points of interest. Thanks to the GPS, the visitor is easily oriented and can concentrate on specific points by consulting the related information. The augmented reality feature also allows visitors to open a virtual window onto the gardens. For the impatient, the application can prepare your visit beforehand. If the application is downloaded before the visit, at a price of 1.59 €, users can preprogram their preferred route and enjoy when they arrive. This innovation is part of the “Grand Versailles Numérique” project, in partnership with Orange.
