For the fourth time in 10 years, the Intelligent Community Forum rewarded the French town of Issy-les-Moulineaux for its digital strategy, thus promoting the economic and social development of its territory. It also praised the efforts of seven other towns such as Eindhoven (Netherlands), Riverside (California), Dublin (Ohio) or Stratford (Canadian Ontario). This selection, announced during the Pacific Telecommunication Council annual summit held on the 19th of January in Honolulu (Hawaii) is the result of a survey conducted by international experts from universities, high-tech industry firms and international organizations. The organization highlighted the visionary part played by the mayor André Santini who, at the beginning of the 1980s, wanted to make this territory a haven for ICT firms. Now the town has the most connected population in France (85% vs. 71% on average). The town council itself endeavored to develop numerous innovative services, like parking payment through mobile phone (PaybyPhone), school catering payment through the Internet, the opening of Facebook and Twitter accounts before any other town… Issy has now entered the lists to become the “inventive local authority” of the year 2011. Results will be given on the 3rd of June in New York City.
