Sports games sometimes lack pace. The prototype “Urban Musical Game” brings an extra touch of excitement through music and it’s clearly pleasing children, young and old. Equipped with wireless motion sensors, this augmented ball reacts to the different moves of players by emitting sounds and rhythms based on their actions. Thus, depending on whether a player dribbles, passes, or guards the hoop, the device creates either a total cacophony, a rhythm or a catchy melody. A system that straddles the line between music and sport.
Urban Music Game was created by researchers at the IRCAM - Centre Pompidou, the design agency NoDesign and the association Phonotonic. Designed for “Futur en Seine,” the prototype made a stop near the port of Marseille at the Palais du Pharo, the host this past July 6th to 8th of 2011 Lift France.
