In Strasbourg, cycling is very popular. About 10% of daily trips are made by bike – which is a national record. Last year, the Alsatian capital took the plunge when it decided to set up Vélhop, its own bike hire scheme (BHS). The goal is to reach 20% by 2020.

The bicycle market is going well. Bike mobility is having great success as comfort and safety constraints have gradually been removed, thus encouraging people to cycle in town more often. Rise and walk! This literary injunction sums up the comments made by the contributors to the conference “Developing walking in cities: pedestrian mobility, health and safety,” organised by the Certu on September 15th in Paris, right in the middle of the European Mobility Week.
